PT BMU through LPH UB Strengthens Halal Certification Assistance for MSEs in East Java
Surabaya – PT Brawijaya Multi Usaha (PT BMU) through its business unit, the Halal Inspection Agency of Universitas Brawijaya (LPH UB), has strengthened its commitment to supporting capacity building for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) through the Socialization and Technical Guidance (BimTek) for Halal Certification of assisted MSEs in East Java. The event, held at the Satyaloka Hall, Representative Office 3 of PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (RO3 PT JTT), Surabaya, is part of efforts to accelerate the readiness of business actors in facing the implementation of the mandatory national halal regulation.
As a business unit of PT BMU engaged in halal inspection, LPH UB has a strategic role in supporting the audit process and the comprehensive implementation of the halal product assurance system. Through this activity, MSE actors not only gain an understanding of halal regulations but also receive technical training on certification stages and readiness to face the audit process.
President Director of PT Brawijaya Multi Usaha, Dr. Edi Purwanto, S.TP., M.M., explained that halal certification has now become an important need for business actors, not only from the perspective of regulatory compliance but also as a step to increase product competitiveness in the market.
"Through LPH UB, PT BMU is committed to supporting business actors to meet halal certification standards comprehensively. Halal certification is currently not just an administrative obligation but also a form of product quality improvement and strengthening consumer trust," he said.
Edi added that the implementation of Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (UU JPH) which will be enforced more strictly in October 2026 requires business actors to start preparing early.
According to him, the halal product assurance system in Indonesia applies comprehensive supervision from upstream to downstream. The entire production process, from traceability of raw materials, processing, storage, packaging, distribution, to presentation to consumers, is an important part of the certification evaluation process.
"Assistance like this BimTek is important because business actors often face obstacles in technical aspects during the audit process. Good understanding from the start can help minimize barriers in the certification process," he explained.
The event also featured several material sessions from practitioners and experts in the field of halal product assurance, discussing regulations, strategies for accelerating halal certification, to technical guidelines for certification registration.
For PT BMU, this activity is also part of efforts to expand the contribution of the LPH UB business unit in supporting the strengthening of the local business ecosystem. Cross-sector collaboration is considered an important step to help business actors face regulatory challenges while increasing product competitiveness in the future.
"We hope that such synergy can continue to develop so that its benefits are not only felt by business actors but also have a broader impact on strengthening the community's economy," Edi concluded.
