Support from PT Brawijaya Multi Usaha for Acehnese Students Studying Abroad

Malang – Solidarity in times of trial is often tested by physical distance. However, PT Brawijaya Multi Usaha (PT BMU), as the holding company of Brawijaya University, recently demonstrated high empathy and social responsibility.

Through its latest humanitarian initiative, PT BMU provided donations and direct support to a number of Acehnese students studying in Malang, in response to the natural disaster that struck their hometown. The donation was handed over directly by the President Director of PT BMU, Dr. Edi Purwanto, S.TP., M.M., at the Acehnese Male Student Dormitory Cik Ditiro, Jl. Bendungan Jati Gede 3, Malang, on October 9.

This step by PT BMU is commendable as it addresses a dimension of vulnerability that is often overlooked. These students, although physically safe in the Malang campus environment, are severely impacted mentally and financially.

These migrant students struggle amid deep anxiety. Some of them only received news from their parents after more than a week. Poor transportation access and internet connectivity in their home region heightened their concerns, while at the same time, they had to stay focused on academic obligations. The damage to their homes and families' livelihoods in Aceh directly severed the crucial financial support chain for their studies away from home.

During his visit to the student dormitory, President Director of PT BMU, Dr. Edi Purwanto, expressed his empathy. "We are very concerned because they (students) have to wait for news from their parents whose areas are affected. We hope that this assistance can ease their burden and help these students stay motivated to continue their education in Malang."

As a strategic business entity within the campus environment, PT BMU understands the urgency of this situation. The donation, consisting of basic food necessities (sembako) and other daily needs, serves as an important buffer. This logistical assistance allows students to reduce operational anxiety and remain focused on academics, thereby minimizing the risk of dropping out.

This decision also reflects a deep understanding of modern Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This CSR is no longer just about donations, but about identifying and responding to vulnerabilities among the stakeholder community.
